2022: A New Year / Birmingham, AL Family and Newborn Photographer
Can you believe it’s 2022?
This time of year, between Christmas and New Year, is such an odd time. We’ve spent the last month in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, and now we have a moment to pause before jumping back into our rhythms and routines.
Looking back…
Each year I like to look back and reflect on the previous year- the highs & lows, areas of growth, what worked and what didn’t work. This year in business I’ve photographed over 75 families, and feel so fortunate to have worked with so many wonderful people.
I started 2021 by restructuring my sessions to account for the cost of shooting film. It has given me the freedom to really shoot how I want to shoot and that has been one of the best decisions!
One of my big goals of 2021 was to learn video, which has been such a fun challenge! I love being able to provide this service to clients. It really captures your season of life in such a raw, tangible way!
Looking ahead..
While I typically find myself using this time to plan, organize, and brainstorm on the upcoming year, this year I’ve felt myself tending more towards reflecting, resting, and appreciating the present. The fleeting nature of childhood has hit me hard lately (hello 5 year old and almost 3 year old?!) and it has me wanting to really soak up this time with them. We’ll be adding a baby boy to our family in May, leading us into a season of slowing down and focusing on family.
So, this year, I will inevitably be taking on less sessions due to the season of life! But don’t worry, you can’t keep me away from doing what I love, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re interested in a session :)
As I’ve started working on my annual family photo book (Mixbook for the win!) I’ve realized how little I documented my girls (and I don’t mean to hundreds of crummy iPhone photos). My favorite photos of my girls this past year are the ones taken with my husband’s grandfather’s old 35mm film camera. There’s something about using an old film camera that keeps me in the present, and it somehow captures those mundane summer days in such a magical way. One goal for me this year is to be more intentional about documenting our life, in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming and cluttered.
I have several other goals for my business this year, some small and some big. But at the end of the day, I am always aiming to provide you an intentional and thoughtful experience and a gallery full of photographs you love.
Here’s a look back…

Thank you so much for following along this year, supporting my work, and trusting me to photograph your family!
I’ll leave you with a question- What is your hope for the year 2022? What do you want your focus to be?
